material in contact with food throughout the food chain is an essential part of
ensuring consumer safety. Specific certification rules for manufacturers of
food packaging include elements such as safety, quality and compliance to legal
requirements. These requirements can be met by improved hygiene, good
manufacturing practice and controlling and monitoring potential contamination risks.

To meet the need for certification, GFSI has approved the FSSC 22000 Packaging standard as a further standard in addition to the well-known standard BRC-IOP / BRC Packaging. FSSC22000 packaging is based on ISO 22000 as the main standard and the specific ISO TS 22002-4 standard.
